AeaeBV1_Endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms
is becoming a valuable alternative to open surgery in selected patients. Imaging plays a major role in the
detection of complications of this new treatment.
Although computed tomography is the most commonly
used examination fo r imaging surveillance,
magnetic resonance angiography, ultrasonography,
and digital subtraction angiography all have a role in
endoleak detection and management.
Specially Computed Tomography is recognised
as the most sensitive method of detecting leakages.
Colour Doppler ultrasonography is a useful method for demonstrating leakages, but its application is limited
because the majority of patients with aortic leakages
tend to be old and obese. Finally digital substraction
angiography fails in a large number of cases, particularly
in the detection of small leakages.
