heal.abstract | Photocatalytic degradation of water soluble organic pollutants during tertiary water treatment is one of the most popular fields of the research related with environmental issues. Nevertheless there has been rather limited work done on the application of photocatalysis to the removal of hormones and pharmaceuticals both in artificial and real wastewater samples. We thus present a review of the current analytical methods and removal technology of hormones and pharmaceuticals in wastewater and discuss the significance of the above in current irrigation standards. In particular we present the traditional methods in wastewater treatment, as well as discussing the role of the advanced oxidation processes and then we go on to a more detailed account of the effect of titania on wastewater processes including the current emphasis on nanocrytalline titania films and their enhanced performance in water treatment. | en |
