The interannual variability of the sea level in the Aegean and Ionian Seas has been studied by examining tidal gauges monthly values from 1969 to 1989. The interannual variability was found to consist of a 2.5 yr (QBO) component, a 4-5 yr (ENSO) component and mostly of a red possibly aperiodic component (80% of variance). Multiple regression indicated that the atmospheric forcing (pressure and wind stress) could account for up to 54% of the seal-level variance. Common feature for the aperiodic component of all stations was found to be high sea-level during maxima of solar activity. An EOF analysis of the trend time series indicated a low of this pattern in central Aegean.
