The goal of this study is to identify and outline the cause of drug addiction by examining factors in both the family and social environments of those who suffer from drug addiction. The research is qualitative and the material was elicited through interviews with four persons who have successfully completed drug rehabilitation programs, organised by the Institution of O.KA.NA (Organisation for the Opposition to Drugs). These interviews were analysed using the biographical method and then a comparative study of the cases was carried in order to be draw general conclusions. According to the findings, the family history of those who suffer from drug addiction and more specifically the relationships between the members of the family and their interaction and social conditions can have such an effect on the person that they are more likely to suffer from drug addiction.
