heal.abstract	Carcinoma of the breast is the most common cancer affecting women over the age of 40 years. And carcinoma of the prostate is the second most common carcinoma in men. Both commonly metastasize to bone and often present with multiple bone metastases as the primary clinical problem. Several treatment approaches have been tried for metastatic carcinoma with multiple skeletal metastases. 153Sm-EDTMP is a very good palliative performing radiopharmaceutical for painful skeletal metastases. It emits therapeutic medium β. energy particles and gamma rays useful for gamma camera imaging. It has excellent pharmacokinetics with bone lesion uptake of up to 65% of the injected dose in the first couple of hours while up to 90% of the activity will be eliminated form the blood in the first half hour. The treatment appears to offer significant pain palliation with minimal myelotoxicity, preserving the quality of life of patients with multiple skeletal metastases.	el
