The most valuable factor in an O.R. is undoubtedly its suitable and sufficient
manpower. In a more general evaluation context of O.R. nursing staff, there was a
compilation of their demographic characteristics, their habits, the way they would like their
working environment to be, how much they are afraid of or whether they are affected by
work-related diseases. The aim of this study is mainly to look at the differences of opinion
between those who work in hospital administration and their subordinates regarding
characteristics of O.R. nurses. The data compiled represent answers given by 201 employees
in 49 operating rooms of Greek hospitals. It is believed that a lot of emphasis must be put on
nursing training in Greece especially on that of O.R. nursing staff members. This study giving
a very negative picture of nursing education in Greek operating rooms today, indirectly
questions their good functioning.
